Deep Silver announced that Utawarerumono: Mask of Truth is currently available right now for the PlayStation 4. The visual novel role-playing game mixes action beats and traditional turn-based strategy with the story unfoldings and characterizations oftentimes found in visual novels.
The game centers around the events that followed in the aftermath of Utawarerumono: Mask of Deception, where the Yamato Empire is being ruled by a ruthless tyrant and usurper. Players take on the role of a band of do-gooders attempting to fight the good fight and restore order and freedom to the people.
You can check out the launch trailer below to get a look at what the game will feature and how it will look visually.
The game mixes in anime sequences, standard VN portrait dialogue, and some 3D turn-based battle sequences with a twist.
Unlike other typical SRPGs, you can actually utilize team dynamics in the fight and attempt to perform cooperative maneuvers based on the position of your teammates, including using chain attacks and other special moves.
This will supposedly be the final game in this particular story arc, completing the tale of those who join with the princess in an attempt to reclaim the land from the tyrant.
Atlus latest title will likely appeal to those who are looking to take advantage of the mixture of traditional JRPG leveling and exploration, but also want a bit more of the whole story scope and depth that comes with many of today’s visual novels.
The budget-priced single-player VN/SRPG is available right now for the PlayStation 4. If you’re tired of all the other action games and miscellaneous titles flooding the market at the moment, you can give it a try by picking up a digital copy from the PlayStation Store.
