The crowdfunded remake of the original Mutant League Football that was once produced by Electronic Arts, is making its long-awaited 3D comeback starting October 31st on Steam. Digital Dreams Entertainment announced that the over-the-top, gory football game featuring the no-holds-barred gameplay we all fell in love with back in the 1990s, will attempt to recapture an audience for today’s generation of gamer.
The arcade-style action-sports title features 7-on-7 throwdowns where gamers will attempt to not only use traditional football field tactics to overcome opponents, but also rely on spearing, splatting, crushing, and exploding opponents into gib. You can check out the trailer below to see what the gameplay is like in the upcoming game.
As much as I would love to say that I’m excited, the reality is that the trailer above hasn’t done much to inspire confidence due to the fact that you can’t really see what’s going on in the trailer for the most part. The post-processing blood splatter and constant explosions make it difficult to see anything.
However, there’s a second gameplay video that gives you a better look at the actual gameplay thanks to a full 11 minute video put together of the Early Access version of Mutant League Football that you can check out below. Without all the quick cuts and fast cuts, you get a better look at the actual gameplay.
The full game will feature 18 different teams from the original Mutant League game and television cartoon, along with commentary from Tim Kitzrow to give play-by-play just as he did during NFL Blitz and NBA Jam, along with featuring exhibition, practice, playoff and season modes, along with the crazy traps like mines, ref bribing, and buzz saws to give you an edge over the competition.
You can learn more about the game or look to pick up a digital copy by visiting the Steam store starting October 31st.
