Spintires: Mudrunner, Physics-Based Sim Now Available For PS4, PC, Xbox One

Saber Interactive and Focus Home Interactive have announced that Spintires: Mudrunner is currently available right now for the Xbox One, PS4 and PC. The physics-based off-road simulator takes players through a number of open sandbox environments where there are a number of challenging conditions to overcome, and a variety of vehicles to use.

Saber Interactive utilizes a high-end engine to depict photorealistic environments and vehicles while giving gamers handling and mechanics that mimic real-life trucks. The game will task you with a variety of missions to complete using the different trucks.

In some scenarios you’ll have to simply travel from one destination to the next. In other scenarios you’ll have to start in one vehicle, transition to the next and then use the tow cable to bring the first vehicle along for the ride. There’s even a multiplayer mode so you and a buddy can team up and trek through the rockies together. You can see how it all plays out with the launch trailer below.

Visually I never get tired of looking at this game.

The physics also really stand out because it’s one of the few games that really seems to capture the weight and momentum of heavy machinery that’s oftentimes overlooked in other physics-based titles. For instance, in Beam.NG one of my biggest gripes is how floaty the physics are. Sometimes the cars will get crushed by larger vehicles and then pop up into the air. There’s also the issue of the physics simulation making the vehicles bouncy and roll more than they would in real life, which drastically takes away from the enjoyment of causing high-speed collision carnage and crunching satisfaction of seeing soft-body deformation take place among a smorgasbord of wheeled vehicles.

Anyway, Spintires: Mudrunner is currently available right now for the home consoles and PC. If you already own the original game on PC, you’ll receive a 50% discount for purchasing Mudrunner.
