Star Wars: Battlefront 2 Videos Highlight Lackluster Single-Player Campaign Gameplay

Electronic Arts released a new trailer for the upcoming loot box in a galaxy far, far away, also known as Star Wars: Battlefront II. The trailer covers some of the single-player content but none of the gameplay.

We see some cinematics with Iden and her dad, with a little bit of family and military tension rising between the two. We still don’t get much in the way of what Iden’s real role is here other than to “destroy the Rebels”. EA has kept everything pretty close to the chest, but not in a really good way. You can check out the trailer below.

There really isn’t much to say about the trailer. It avoids SJWism as much as possible, something I noticed since the initial backlash against the game when EA and DICE first unveiled Iden and the Inferno Squad. Since then EA has tried to focus the marketing more on… Iden… but less so on her as a person, just more-so her as an instrument of the Empire.

EA’s marketers have been able to smartly veer discussion away from the SJW aspects (for their sake), but thankfully they weren’t so smart as to see that gamers see the insidious nature of the loot box gambling present in Star Wars: Battlefront II and the pay-to-win factors that will surely tank the game’s long-term success.

Beyond that, there’s a second video that was posted up featuring 10 minutes worth of gameplay from the single-player portion of Star Wars: Battlefront II, courtesy of Star Wars HQ. You can check that out below.

There are three missions on display, including the first mission that involves Iden needing to escape from a Rebel jail. You’ll first have to play as her floating droid who must stealthily sneak past the rebel guards and get to Iden’s cell so it can free her.

After the droid frees Iden, you then have to grab a weapon and shoot through the Rebel forces in tight corridors and hallways.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 - Inferno Squad

The second mission is Inferno Squad on the moon of Endor after the Death Star gets blown to bits. We briefly see Iden taking out some of the Rebel forces before the scene switches to a space battle in a debris field where Inferno Squad must defend the Corvus frigate-class vessel from Rebel bombing runs.

The last mission before the clips repeat indicate that Iden is about to board one of the Rebel ships – a feature that’s missing from multiplayer where players will be able to seamlessly board larger space vessels or take off and fight in space.

Nothing looks particularly noteworthy about the gameplay, but a lot of Star Wars fanboys are excited nonetheless. It appears to be a less feature-rich version of Pandemic’s Star Wars: Battlefront II with fancier graphics.

The game is due for release on the Xbox One, PS4 and PC starting November 17th.
