Two new trailers have been released for Level-5 Games’ Ni No Kuni 2: Revenant Kingdom, which is prepping to release this upcoming January in 2018 for PC and PS4. Bandai Namco rolled out the new trailers recently to give gamers a short look at what’s to come for the JRPG sequel.
The first trailer is a very brief story-oriented piece that clocks in at just over a minute in length. It features a surly mouse dastard attempting to rekindle mousekind to fight back against the humans, along with a few of the visually distinct locations that players will visit along the way.
You can check out the first trailer below.
Now the second trailer has a lot more beefiness to it, featuring 14 full minutes of combat against the boss.
There’s a short introduction to the girthy dragon that eventually pushes the player’s team to the limit with fireballs, flaming breath and plenty of AOE attacks. We get to see how the Pikmin-inspired RTS elements come into the play, doing small bits of chip damage to the level 30 Longfang while the other NPC allies shoot and attack the boss with everything they’ve got. Much like the old-school battles of old, players will have to learn the patterns of Longfang, dodge his attacks, and wail away at the dragon using whatever weapons and attacks they have to slowly dwindle the giant’s health.
There are a variety of attacks that Longfang dispenses, including a stream of fire that you’ll need to dodge, rocks that land on the small island in the middle of lava that eventually explode, and plenty of meteoric attacks.
The combat itself is mirrored after most other action-oriented role-playing games with combos, real-time magic attacks and a heavy reliance on dodging and rolling.
One of the added strategic elements that works in favor and against players is the fact that even if you dodge the boss’ attacks you’ll need to be mindful of your teammates who may not dodge the attacks or fail to get out of the way. If they die you’ll be down a teammate, and this will limit your DPS output.
There’s definitely a lot of team micromanagement involved, as players will have to work the meta-game with the little Pikmin-looking creatures, while also running heals, and keeping the pressure on the boss. So far it looks quite challenging.
You can look for Ni No Kuni 2 to drop this upcoming January in 2018 for PC and PS4.
