Badland Games and Protocol Games recently announced that there’s a new horror title on the way called Song of Horror. A Halloween teaser was let loose to give gamers an idea as to what they can expect from the unique new horror title due for release in spring of 2018 for PS4, Xbox One and PC.
Song of Horror is a narrative driven horror game where players will be in control of 16 different characters. The main character, Daniel Noyer, is being threatened by forces of darkness that are trying to take over his mind.
The themes of the game are based on classic horror from the likes of Edgar Allen Poe, H.P. Lovecraft, and M.R. James.
You can get an idea of what the game will be like with the teaser trailer below, which briefly showcases some of the horrors that will be haunting a few of the playable characters in the game.
The theme of Protocol Games’ title is that it’s about bringing back old-school horror, and a sense of true dread.
Part of what fuels the scares in Song of Horror is that all 16 playable characters can permanently die, so you’ll have to think wisely and play smartly to keep all 16 characters alive against a vicious A.I., director.
Protocol is calling the procedural A.I., The Presence.
Much like The Director from Left 4 Dead, The Presence will generate a variety of dangers that players will have to contend with. We see some of those dangers briefly in the trailer, including a foreboding specter that can wisp around, an Eldritch-style horror that seems to be a tentacle-like monster that does all sorts of horrible things to anyone unlucky enough to be on the receiving end of its terror.
If the actual gameplay is anywhere near as atmospheric and thrilling as the teaser, then Protocol Games could have a sleeper-hit on their hands. We’ll have to wait to learn more about the upcoming horror game.
