ToeJam And Earl: Back In The Groove Delayed To 2018

Publisher Adult Swim and developer Humanature Studios have recently announced the move to delay the crowdfunded revival of the classic ToeJam and Earl game “Back in the Groove” to 2018. The game is set to launch across PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.

Personally, seeing ToeJam and Earl brings back memories of games like Earthworm Jim, Earthbound, Sonic the Hedgehog 3, and other nostalgic-inducing titles. The new iteration by Adult Swim and Humanature Studios aims to bring ToeJam and Earl to the 21st century via Back in the Groove.

The idea behind this new iteration sees ToeJam and Earl crash landing on Earth, and finding the pieces to the Rapmaster Rocketship to get back to Lamont before he realizes it’s missing.

The thing is, though, the devs need to polish the game up some before releasing it to the public as noted on the game’s Kickstarter update page:

“Game development is an inexact science and it’s our priority to deliver the best, most solid game we can. To get the game across the finish line we need to push into 2018, but rest assured we are working our butts off and you guys are going to get an awesome game.”

Delaying a game isn’t a bad thing when developers put time into making a product better for its launch. Hopefully the results aren’t contrary to their efforts like some other games that have been delayed but still released buggy and broken, like Mass Effect: Andromeda.

The good news for those looking forward to ToeJam and Earl: Back in the Groove is that Adult Swim released a new video updating gamers on progress through a cinematic trailer, which holds a snippet of gameplay.

No specific date has been revealed regarding when ToeJam and Earl: Back in the Groove will hit the gaming scene, but what is known is that the game will drop sometime next year. Additionally, it will be available for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
