CryZENx has been working on a remake of Diddy Kong Racing in the Unreal Engine 4.18.1. The game features the latest and greatest shader effects and optimization options made available through Epic’s 3D game engine. And for gamers inclined to check out the project, the fan-remake is available for download right now.
If you don’t care about the details and you just want to get your hands on the project, you can download the 403MB file right now from Google Drive.
The availability was promised earlier in the week, which was spotted by DSO Gaming when CryZENx made the post on Facebook indicating that a remake of the 1997 N64 racing game would be coming.
Originally it was unknown as to which characters and what stages would be made available, but the launch trailer that covers five minutes worth of gameplay. You can check it out below.
The graphics and music are spot on. It’s a faithful remake of the N64 classic. Directional audio effects, along with a mix of pre-baked and real-time dynamic lighting gives the stages a new breath of life.
The demo sees Diddy riding around and examining the starting area while riding through the water and exploring some of the caves.
If you wanted to play test this project for yourself,. You might want to do so now before Nintendo whips out the cease and desist hammers and start pelting away at CryZENx.
There isn’t much to the project right now other than the starting area. There is also some obvious clipping issues where the camera doesn’t dolly around to avoid going through the geometry of the characters and stages, but that’s to be expected. The maps also haven’t been fully fleshed out yet, but depending on how the project goes maybe CryZENx will add a few more actual races to the project?
