Slug Disco Studios have released their ant or bug survival-strategy simulator, Empires of the Undergrowth for PC via Steam Early Access. Fans of late 1990’s and early 2000’s ant simulators might find a real work of art in Empire of the Undergrowth.
Featured on this very site a while back during its early days in development, the latest news on Slug Disco Studios’ Empire of the Undergrowth relates to its release on Early Access.
Moreover, bug lovers and folks who like to hunker down and crawl through the small world of a bug will be able to fulfill that fantasy through a survival-strategy setup. The bug simulator’s official description lies below:
“Ant colony management game, in a fast-paced real-time strategy style. The player excavates their nest underground, constructing tunnels and chambers to store food and raise brood. On the surface, the ants claim territory, gather resources, overwhelm fearsome arachnids and clash with other colonies.”
Sizing down to that of an ant, gamers will need to carve out and construct underground paths, nests, and routes for strategical purposes that double over for other useful reasons.
Empires of the Undergrowth also sports various species that hone unique traits and weaknesses, which can be exploited in colony battles and in the everyday life of a bug.
Folks thinking what else lies behind surviving and battling other arthropods, well currently in the Early Access version of the game there happens to be a primary game mode that goes by the name of Formicarium. In this mode, you take ownership of a home colony of unique DNA-harvesting ants that must recruit as many helpful and efficient traits of their counterparts to survive. This mode features an upgrade feature where you can participate in one-off missions with your home colony or with other species.
Actual gameplay by YouTuber by Blitz sits below that shows the Formicarium mode in action.
Empires of the Undergrowth is currently available for $19.99 over on Steam Early Access. For more information on this game you can hit up its official website eotugame.com.
