Solid Sphere has a new game set to drop for the Nintendo Switch called Kaiji: Steel Bridges Of Despair. The game is a unique title due out on December 28th, (tomorrow if you’re reading this early) as a digital download. It’s based on the Kaiji manga from Nobuyuki Fukumoto, about a guy named Kaiji who finds himself in poverty and in desperate need of cash, so he ends up partaking in high-stakes gambles to clear his debt and earn some quick cash, but it comes at heavy costs.

Gamer.ne.jp spotted the new launch trailer for the truly oddball game, where you take part in dangerous events that sees Kaiji attempting to cross steel beams… of despair. You can check out the trailer below to see what the gameplay is like.

I’m not sure why Solid Sphere disabled the comments, but this game looks crazy.

Basically, players take on the role of Kaiji as he attempts to complete a series of dangerous games as part of the whole underground gambling society… even though technically it’s very, very high above ground.

There are different types of steel beam challenges, some over minor structures, while others see the participants moving across beams connecting two large skyscrapers. As pointed out in the Gamer.ne.jp article, the game will take direct scenarios from the manga and anime and have players experience them firsthand in the game.

I wonder if they’ll also include the part about losing the four fingers?

Anyway, the gameplay in the trailer wasn’t really showcased much. It looks like it has gyro-implementation so in portable mode when you rock the Switch it helps balance Kaiji out on the beam.

I’m not really sure what else there is to the gameplay because neither the trailer nor the article discuss the actual gameplay controls. It’s a bit of a crap shoot. However, we do see that some of the beams are electrified at one point, so if you bend down to touch them you get shocked and then presumably fall to your death.

Nevertheless, if you’ve added Nintendo eShop points to your Nintendo Network account, you can go into the official profile settings on a web browser and switch your location to Japan so you can buy a digital copy from the Nintendo eShop from the Switch’s home menu.

Kaiji: Steel Bridges of Despair will be available on December 28th, 2017 exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
