Monster Energy Supercross Utilizes Photogrammetry, 3D Scanning For Realistic Racers, Tracks

Milestone released a new trailer for Monster Energy Supercross, featuring actual in-game play, some of the bike physics and a look at one of the Monster Energy stadiums in Anaheim, California.

The trailer is only a minute long but it manages to capture a small piece of what to expect from the upcoming title, which is due out on February 13th, 2018 for the Xbox One, PS4, PC, and the Nintendo Switch.

You can check out the trailer below.

We also get to see a couple of different stadiums as well, even though many of them look the same. We see the Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana, as well as the U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

We also get a brief look at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Phoenix, Arizona, and the Daytona track in Florida.

We get a brief glimpse at the 250SX West, the 250SX East, and the 450SX across a variety of track conditions. While we don’t get to see it in action, the press release indicates that gamers will have to race across rainy, muddy tracks in the stadium as well.

The Unreal Engine 4-powered racer looks pretty good and there’s definitely a level of authenticity to be found in the visual effects thanks to Milestone going for a more natural look to the lighting mechanics. The developers are using the newer 3D scanners for the characters, which is why they look photorealistic, which also captures accurate 3D light data so that they can adjust and attune the in-game lighting to match the real life rider. They’ve also utilized laser-scanned photogrammetry in order to capture real-life mockups of the tracks thanks to SpiderCams.

But graphics will only take your racing game so far. The real test of might is in the game’s physics and handling. I’m curious if Milestone will take advantage of Nintendo’s HD rumble? Or if we’ll see any motion-controlled mechanics in play?

You can look for the game to arrive early on in February starting the 13th in 2018. For more info be sure to visit the official website.
