Sicario 2 Trailer Shows What The Punisher Series Should Have Been About

Denis Villeneuve’s Sicario was a take-no-prisoners, badass, espionage crime thriller. It was a lot unlike many other films that came out in 2015 because it didn’t hand-hold the audience and it certainly didn’t play into the stereotypes of current day Liberal agendas oftentimes pushed by the Hollywood machine. Well, a sequel is in the works and Sony Pictures Entertainment dropped a near-two minute trailer to get fans and potential moviegoers hyped.

The trailer was posted up recently over on the Sony Pictures YouTube channel, and revealed that the film, starring a returning Benecio Del Toro, will be in theaters starting June, 2018. You can check it out below.

This trailer is all kinds of badass from start to finish.

Josh Brolin wants to take care out terrorists within the drug cartel… and more specifically, the drug cartel itself. Some cartels appear to be using suicide bombers and other means of domestic terrorism to keep control of the flow of drugs and money across the international border crossings. Brolin is brought in to troubleshoot, and he does it the best way he knows how: letting Benecio Del Toro go to work.

This trailer doesn’t spoil a darn thing but manages to showcase some intense, taut, hardcore action along the way. That is how you put together a trailer.

Sicario 2 Soldado - Convoy

There are some seriously sweet looking action beats on display here, from the missile coming out of nowhere in the desert and blowing one of the convoys up like a firecracker attached to a Hotwheels toy, to the various juxtaposing scenes of cops surrounding suspects with guns drawn while cartel terrorists surround targets with their guns drawn.

It looks like one of those films with the dirty kind of politics where the only good guys are the ones who know when to pull the trigger without bureaucracy getting in the way of letting bad guys roam free.

Sicario 2 Soldado - Drug Cartel Terrorism

It’s the kind of film that I wish that The Punisher series on Netflix had aspired to become. Jon Bernthal was a great Frank Castle, with brooding intensity from top to bottom, but he was trapped in the gears of a machine working against itself. A scenario like the one presented in Sicario 2: Soldado would have been perfect for Frank to judge the baddies with his jurisdiction-free justice.

There’s always the off chance that the second season of The Punisher (which is coming, by the way) will be closer to the likes of how Sicario 2 has presented itself rather than what was given to the Netflix denizens this past fall. However, if you want to see a real badass flick with some tough as nails actors portraying some tough as nails characters, you can look for Sicario 2: Soldado to hit theaters in June of 2018.
