A new report has surfaced talking about EA and how the company is contemplating on removing microtransactions altogether from Star Wars Battlefront 2. There’s no telling if EA and DICE will pull the microtransaction plug in Star Wars Battlefront 2 or if it will stay.
Although quite of few people happen to be tired of the whole fiasco, there seems to be some folks out there that have pressed the issue hard enough insofar that bigger media outlets and even Disney had to tell EA and DICE to pull the microtransaction plug for a bit.
As of today, publication site GameRant has found that at the Nasdaq Investor Conference earlier this week, EA’s chief financial officer, Blake Jorgensen, explained that the company dropped Star Wars Battlefront 2’s microtransactions as an “opportunity to work on the progression system inside the game.”
The publication site had various quotes by the CFO throughout the post stating the typical stuff about upcoming “progression systems” and how there will be more updates to “fix” the game.
The most interesting part found on the publication’s post about EA suggests that the company is thinking about pulling all microtransactions in SWBF2:
“As part of this process, Jorgensen says that “over time we’ll address how we will want to bring the [microtransactions] either into the game or not and what form we will decide to bring it into.” This comment from the executive suggests that EA may choose to not bring back microtransactions to Star Wars Battlefront 2 at all.”
It’s worth noting that the outcry and media coverage of SWBF2’s “progression system” and microtransactions did cause EA’s stock value to drop over $3 billion. The publication site also noted that the game’s sales dropped by 60% when compared to the first title, but that could be due to other factors, though.
Given that Disney is displeased with all of the uproar surrounding EA, Star Wars Battlefront 2 and the franchise as a whole, due to the microtransaction issue, there’s no telling if Disney will be okay with those big bucks rolling in with a side of bad coverage by major outlets or not?
