Saber Interactive and Paramound Pictures announced that World War Z is set to arrive on the PS4, Xbox One and PC. The new game is set after the initial events of World War Z, the film.
The game received its debut announcement at The Game Awards 2017, and gave gamers a short look at the fast-paced, action-oriented survival game against some crazy amounts of zombies.
The trailer actually manages to capture a solid look at what you can expect from the gameplay, but first it sets up the atmosphere by talking about how the weather doesn’t stop them, how the army couldn’t stop them, and how no obstacle could stand in their way. While the trailer originally seemed to hint at something for Metro 2033 or maybe another expansion for The Division, it was actually for World War Z… the game.
While the trailer was light on details for the actual gameplay, it was revealed that it will be a four-player cooperative game featuring third-person shooting.
As you can see in the trailer, unlike Resident Evil or DayZ, the zombie hordes aren’t the shambling, Romero-style of the undead. Instead, the game follows the movie rather closely, featuring the rapid-running infected similar to 28 Days Later.
As far as goals, features, mechanics, and length are concerned, we don’t get any details on that stuff.
Instead we just see some survivors shooting at some zombies and it doesn’t look like they’re doing a very good job of surviving. I sure hope there’s a run-and-gun feature where you can run away and shoot behind you, because trying to run away while shooting and only having to slowly step backward is not going to work out so great when you’ve got 100 zombies bearing down you like a hot cosplayer at a journalist-only event. There’s no way you’re getting out of there without someone aggressively grabbing you.
Anyway, World War Z is due to drop on the Xbox One, PS4 and PC at some point in 2018.
