Antinomy Of Common Flowers Is An Anti-Gravity Touhou Fighting Game

Sunfish Co., and Twilight Frontier have a new fighting game on Steam called Antinomy of Common Flowers. The interesting thing about the game is that it’s an anti-gravity 2D fighting game, themed around projectile-based special moves.

Antinomy of Common Flowers launches on January 5th but unfortunately it does not support the English language. [Update: According to the Twilight Frontier account covering Touhou projects, the game will eventually receive an English language patch.]

The game features a story mode, an arcade mode, and a versus mode for two players in offline mode, along with an online versus mode that supports up to 2-vs-2 tag bouts.

You can see what the gameplay is like with the trailer below, which gives you an idea of what the character roster is like and how the mechanics are utilized.

The game is pretty cool insofar that you can start with neutrals at the bottom of the screen, and then proceed to transition into air juggles that can then be transitioned into long-range projectile combos. Unlike other games, you aren’t stuck fighting on the ground. You can take to the air, unleash a barrage of attacks on your foes from a distance, not too dissimilar from Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3.

The big difference between the two games is that you can freely fly around in the air in Antinomy of Common Flowers. So if you find yourself getting overwhelmed from a particular angle, you can then switch around and fly to your opponent’s back or attempt to redirect the action into an overhead combo.

It’s a slightly different kind of fighting game that reminds me a little bit like a 2D, sprite-version of Dragon Ball Xenoverse. A good portion of the gameplay relies on taking the fight to the air and utilizing the aerial mechanics to your advantage.

If you were interested in checking the game out it will be available for purchase after January 5th over on the Steam store.
