It has been reported that FoxNext Games, a division of 20th Century Fox, has acquired Bay Area game developer Cold Iron Studios. This acquisition will help FoxNext Games work on a new online shooter game set in the Alien franchise, and the game will launch across PC and home consoles.
You’ve read right, FoxNext Games wants to make a new online Alien game that will release across PC and likely PS4 and Xbox One. This FoxNext Games division was founded back in 2017 and is the video game division of Fox.
There’s no telling how this game will pan out as of this moment, but we can get a slight ideal by looking into the company that was acquired by FoxNext Games: Cold Iron Studios.
This development company was created back in 2015 by CEO Craig Zinkievich, Chief Technology Officer Shannon Posniewski, and Creative Director Matt Highison.
The website in question has an About or synopsis that reads:
“Cold Iron Studios was founded in 2015 by three industry veterans who had a goal of creating games they want to play and building a team they love working with. Since then, the team has expanded to 20+ awesome developers and we’ve moved into a downtown office in the heart of Silicon Valley. We’re a diverse group of passionate gamers with decades of experience developing and launching award-winning MMO and action titles. We’re currently developing our first game for next gen consoles and PC, and we can’t wait to share the details with you! If you’re interested in joining us, check out our open positions!”
According to publication site Venture Beat we learn from Aaron Loeb, president of studios at FoxNext Games, that…
“Cold Iron Studios has amazing design, craftsmanship and development talent that we are excited to welcome at FoxNext Games as we pursue our goal to build a multi-platform, multi-genre portfolio of great games. I am a personal fan of Cold Iron’s previous work and all of us at FoxNext Games are thrilled to be working with them as they create an action-packed persistent world, steeped in the mysteries of this beloved Alien universe.”
The same publication also quoted CEO Zinkievich saying:
“We believe in FoxNext’s vision and we are thrilled about the opportunity to explore an amazing and rich universe. Our background in building online worlds and taking established franchises to the next level in interactive entertainment is a precise fit with our product roadmap ahead; we can’t wait to share more information soon.”
Seeing that FoxNext Games is trying to cash-in on the mobile scene with Marvel Strike Force, which features microtransactions, it wouldn’t be shocking to think that this Alien online game will feature some sort of loot-box, MTX service or system.
As of now, this Alien online shooter game is slated to release for PC and home consoles and has no official release date yet.
