Mutant Football League Set To Launch On PS4, Xbox One January 19th

Digital Dreams Entertainment announced that Mutant Football League will finally make its way to the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4 starting January 19th. And while the name is slightly different to avoid getting wrangled up into a beef with EA, the game is very much an homage and a successor to EA Sports’ 1993 action-sports title, Mutant League Football.

The game will be available as a digital-only download via the Xbox Store and the PlayStation Store, respectively. The game originally came out back on October 31st, 2017 on Steam after going through a crowdfunding phase earlier in the year back on February 2nd, 2017. The game was already further along in development and just needed that final push across the finish line to make its way onto Steam and then later onto home consoles.

During the summer Digital Dreams Entertainment had the game go through the Early Access phase on Steam so that it could be fixed up nice and neat for its launch during the fall. That following week Digital Dreams then took the game on a run through the Xbox Game Preview program, where they were able to get Mutant Football League running right proper on the Xbox home console. And soon, both Xbox and PlayStation gamers will be able to play the finished version starting January 19th.

You can check out the trailer below to see what the gameplay is like.

I used to love to play the Mutant League games on the Sega Genesis back in the day. They played so well, which was one of their biggest selling points because they were actually smoother and better designed than the Madden NFL games and the other off-brand football games for home consoles and PC.

The newer game from Digital Dreams Entertainment hopes to rekindle that classic element of hardcore, arcade-sports action that has been sadly missing from the sports genre up until Psyonix released Rocket League.

Mutant Football League - Exploding Bodies

In the case of Mutant Football League, you’ll have a full-on career mode to play through, commentary provided by Tim Kitzrow from Midway’s iconic NBA Jam and NFL Blitz games, along with 18 different teams to choose from.

There are a handful of modes to play through that support two player online play along with up to four-player local multiplayer.

If you’re keen on expanding your Xbox One or PS4 library with a quality-made action-sports title, you can look to get your hands on Mutant Football League starting January 19th. If you would prefer to stick with the glorious PC master race, you can pick up a digital copy from the Steam store right now for $24.99.
