Rainswept, Noir Murder-Mystery Gets First Trailer And Playable Demo

We don’t get many games centered around solving small time murders. Most games are themed around giant conspiracies, overreaching corporations, government corruption, and some philosophical tale about the death and destruction of mankind. Well, developer Frostwood Interactive (which is a cool name by the way) has a much simpler and smaller frame of reference that they’re focusing on with the noir, murder-mystery game, Rainswept.

You can download the hour long demo for Rainswept right now by downloading it from over on the Itch.io download page.

You’ll get a small taste of what the gameplay is like, which hearkens back to the classic point-and-click style of navigation, with environmental-themed puzzle solving and a character driven story.

The game itself is themed around a double homicide involving a couple that suffered from a turbulent relationship. Players assume the role of Detective Michael Anderson, who attempts to solve the murder that takes place in the small town of Pineview. Some people assume that the couple killed each other after spending inordinate amounts of time at each others’ throats, while some believe that something more sinister may be afoot.

It’s up to players to figure out what really happened and what exactly led to the couple’s demise.

Even though the game is built in Unity, visually it has a Flash-oriented aesthetic, centering around minimalism so as not to distract from the way the character narrative(s) unfold.

It has a similar mechanical setup as Night In The Woods, which also themed itself more around the interactions and character narratives rather than attempting to focus solely on graphics.

As the trailer depicts, Detective Michael Anderson isn’t just solving a murder, but he’s also diving back into his own past and the dark secrets that lie within.

Rainswept focuses a lot on unresolved traumas and the breakdown of relationships.

The music is also being composed by Micamic, the same auricular mastermind behind the 2012 horror-adventure game, The Cat Lady.

You can learn more about Rainswept by paying a visit to the official website. The full game is due out at some point in 2018.
