Scribblenauts Showdown Features 30,000 Words, Four-Player Versus Modes

The Scribblenauts franchise is coming to the Nintendo Switch for the very first time. Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and Shiver Entertainment announced that Scribblenauts Showdown is set to launch on March 9th, 2018 for the Nintendo Switch, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

The game is a party affair, focusing on four-player mini-games scattered across various modes. The game sees players in a showdown (like the title infers) fighting it out for supremacy using a variety of items and objects to outwit and outplay your opponent.

Gamers will have more than 30,000 words to utilize within the vast Scribblenauts in-game dictionary, being able to mix and match items, powers, objects, and elements in order to secure victory. A rather brief demonstration of how the versus mode works is put on display in the announcement trailer.

Scribblenauts Showdown will be played out across a board game map where players will have to battle it out against each other across a number of different action-oriented mini-games, not unlike Mario Party.

There’s also a head-to-head two-player versus mode that allows two players to duke it out across 25 different mini-games. This mode can also be played as a player-vs-AI setup as well, so if you don’t have any friends or if you just don’t like people, or if people just don’t like you, it’s entirely possible to play the game against the CPU and leave all the organ sacks and meat bags to play amongst themselves.

Shiver Entertainment is the new development studio under the Warner Bros., publishing label to handle the Scribblenauts franchise after the series’ resident developer, 5th Cell, was shut down. There’s no telling how well they’ll be able to step into the shoes of 5th Cell, but we’ll find out come March 9th.

Warner Bros., also seems to make it a habit these days to leave PC releases off the docket after they screwed the pooch one too many times with Batman: Arkham Knight and Mortal Kombat X. However, the Steam money is likely too much for Warner Bros., to pass up, so expect the game to arrive at a later date on PC.
