Soul Grabber Enters Early Access, Lets You Possess And Play Enemies

Masthead Studios’ Soul Grabber is a side-scrolling beat-’em-up game that sees gamers taking on the role of a body-hopping soul. Keeping in line with the name of the game, the concept centers around hopping from one enemy body to the next, as you grab hold of them and use them to fight through the levels.

Soul Grabber is designed like a traditional beat-’em-up game, insofar that you move around using eight directions and carry out close range melee and long range magic attacks on your foes.

However, if you find yourself getting overwhelmed or lacking the necessary muscle to take down your opponents, you can simply move over to them and steal their body, as demonstrated in the trailer below.

The game features dozens of different enemies for you to take over. In order to stand out after possessing their body, the player-controlled character will grow slightly larger and have the green soul spheres circling them so you know which character you’re in control of. It certainly helps when you take over an enemy that’s the same as several other enemies on the screen.

Orlin Dutskinov, the creative producer at Masthead Studios, explained what the motivation was behind the game, explaining in the press release that it was about combining a classic genre with a new way to play, saying…

“With Soul Grabber we are twisting the classic beat’em genre by featuring the body-swap skill which will give you the power to fight as if you were one of the bad guys”

Soul Grabber features three different worlds to conquer, as well as tons of dungeons to crawl, and various bosses to defeat.

According to the Early Access page, Soul Grabber will be in Early Access for about a year. So it won’t be releasing in full for quite some time.
