Staxel Enters Early Access, Combines Minecraft With Harvest Moon

Many journalists are probably already calling this the Harvest Moon of Dark Souls games, and the Dark Souls of Minecraft games, since that seems to be the only series of games they’re familiar with. But for everyone else who fondly grew up playing the slice-of-life farming simulators from Natsume, and gamers who have fond memories of Mojang’s voxel adventure title, will quickly recognize that Plukit’s Staxel very much is a combination of Minecraft’s 3D 8-bit voxel visuals with Harvest Moon’s farming-oriented simulation gameplay.

Staxel just recently entered into Early Access on Steam for $19.99 under the Humble Bundle publishing label. The game features both single-player and online cooperative gameplay.

The game centers around restoring a rundown farm to its former glory. You’ll nestle in and help the locals solve their problems, you’ll be a good boy or a good girl and complete quests, tend to the animals, and even make a few friends along the way.

As showcased in the trailer above, you’ll be able to partake in a number of mini-games, including going fishing, capturing butterflies, and other miscellaneous activities.

Of course, the focus of the game is on raising farm animals, tilling the ground, buying seeds, harvesting crops, and growing your farm so that it becomes big, luxurious and the best farm that any farm has ever known.

And of course… while the majority of the content has centered around the game’s similarities to Harvest Moon, we can’t forget the fact that the game doesn’t just look like Minecraft just to be hip. Much like other voxel-oriented games made for today’s gaming audience, you will be able to take full advantage of customizing and building out your farm and your home and the surrounding land thanks to the terraforming and object building mechanics present in the title.

The game is scheduled to stay in Early Access on Steam up until late 2018. A lot of the development schedule will depend on player feedback and how much content they can change or implement provided by said feedback. So you can keep an eye on Staxel if that’s the kind of game you want to play, or you can learn more by visiting the Steam store page.
