A small team of developers are working on a game called SWATNG, which stands for Swat Next Generation. The game is an evolutionary successor to the original Sierra Interactive SWAT games that came out way back in the 1990s. The last good game in the series was SWAT 4, which was designed by Irrational Games and published way back in 2005. They made a couple of other titles after that but by then the luster was all gone.
Well, the SWATNG team are hoping to rekindle the strategic realism that came with the earlier entries in the series by allowing players to take control of several S.W.A.T., teams and lead them into dangerous and hostile scenarios where players must apprehend the suspects and diffuse the situation.
A brief glimpse of what the gameplay is like is demonstrated in the Kickstarter pitch video, which you can check out below.
The promise of the game is that you can either play it safe and utilize proper protocol by attempting to avoid racking up body counts and killing innocent people, or you can play the game just like real life and go in shooting on sight and killing anyone who steps in front of the crosshairs.
You’ll also have full control of the S.W.A.T., truck where you can tactically position the truck and make proper entry into a hostile situation.
Additionally, for scenarios where you need to breach doors, use a camera to see in areas that are unreachable by normal humans, or make a breach to reach hostiles who have barricaded themselves inside the house, you can also make use of the A.C.I.V., or the E.O.D. They’re both put on demonstration in the video trailer below.
The game is currently seeking funding over on Kickstarter with a goal of $43,446. They currently have 28 days to go as of the writing of this article. If you feel like learning more or plan on pledging to the project you can do so by visiting the Kickstarter page.
