Dniash composer Jesper Kyd – of Hitman and Assassin’s Creed fame – will score the soundtrack for Fatshark Studios’ upcoming Warhammer: Vermintide 2. The Swedish development company sent out word that Kyd is making a return to the sequel to compose an entirely original soundtrack for the cooperative shooter.
According to the press release, Kyd’s score for the Gothic shooter will be dark, moody, and tribal. They actually teased a small piece of the soundtrack in one of the latest trailers for the game, which you can scope out below.
The music is themed after the Norse mythology that Fatshark features in Warhammer: Vermintide 2, capturing the Scandinavian roots that the developers were gunning for with the upcoming shooter game.
The press release explains that specifically for Vermintide 2 Kyd came up with an all new instrument in order to help facilitate the kind of sound that was being crafted for the game.
You can definitely hear the Scandinavian sounds in the track “Entering the War Camp”, which was published on YouTube. Take a listen below.
The music is themed around the new faction in Vermintide 2, the Chaos. They’re a staple faction in the Warhammer franchise, but they take on a much sinister and more grounded, dark ages-motif in the upcoming Fatshark game.
There’s a more mysterious and callous theme when players face off against the trolls, with the appropriately titled “Troll Fight”. You can grab a listen below.
They don’t mention if the soundtrack will be sold separately when Warhammer: Vermintide 2 launches for the Xbox One, PS4 and PC later this year, but I’m pretty sure they’ll have some sort of accommodation for video game music aficionados.
