A new seven minute video was released for Iron Galaxy and Modus Games’ Extinction has been released, featuring a look at the game’s gameplay mechanics and some of the things you can do in the sandbox, hack-and-slash, David vs Goliath style setup.
Extinction is due out on April 10th for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC. The game will center around the protagonist Avil, who must defend the land of Dolorum from giant ogres known as the Ravenii.
Extinction is based around skill-based gameplay, where players will have to rely on both hand-eye coordination and the tactical wits to overcome the Ravenii. Avil is part of a dying order known as the Sentinels who have special weapons and training to deal with the Ravenii, and it’ll be up to players to make use of their abilities to bring the giants to their knees.
You can see how the game plays out with the features trailer below.
Hilariously enough the very first thing that pops up in the trailer is that Extinction does not contain microtransactions.
I’m sure plenty of people wiped some sweat from their forehead after reading that disclaimer.
The game’s world is pretty crazy, with the world itself being basked in the constant chaos of war. However, humans end up getting thrown into an all new battle for survival when a portal opens up and giant, 150 foot tall ogres come stomping in to crush and eat everything in their path.
The actual gameplay isn’t just about mimicking Attack on Titan, grappling around and killing the giants. You’ll also have to take on smaller foes as well, where you get to see Avil unleashing some sweet looking combos that seem quite similar to the combat in Castlevania: Lords of Shadow.
The giant battles is really cool because in order to kill the ogres you have to use your rune sword and charge up the sword in order to decapitate the giants. You can slow them down by destroying their armor and cutting off their limbs, which can prevent them from walking or attacking.
The combat reminds me of a mix of Attack on Titan meets Shadow of the Colossus.
You can look for Extinction to launch on the PC, PS4 and Xbox One starting April 10th, 2018 this spring.
