In a continuing effort to rival the likes of Steam, GOG.com has decided to initiate a sale to commemorate the Chinese Lunar New Year in the Year of the Dog. This sale appreciates the East Asian culture with deals on DRM-free games at up to 90% off.
Not only are there some great deals on some good games, but there’s also a free giveaway of SNK’s King of Fighters 2002. You can download the game right now, for free, by heading on over to the King of Fighters 2002 store page. Just click the “Get It Here” button to add it to your account, for free.
The game usually costs $5.99, but for the next 48 hours you can download it at no extra charge.
Keep in mind that this is a straight arcade port and not the Neo Geo version, so you’re going to be highly limited in what sort of options are available. Also, this was during SNK’s Eolith years, where the artwork wasn’t the best and the fighting was passably decent. I only really liked King of Fighters 2002 because it was a dream match rendition, meaning that it wasn’t official canon. Usually this would be a bad thing, but due to it being a dream match it meant that my favorite fighter, Ryuji Yamazaki, was playable once again.
Besides King of Fighters 2002 being free, there’s also 500 games on sale, some of which are discounted up to 90%. The sale will run from now up until February 20th next week.
Some of these deals include Rayman Origins being available for up to 80% off, or Samorost 3: Cosmic Edition being 75% off for $5.79, and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. being discounted by 77% off for $4.59.
Keep in mind that these deals are very similar to the old Steam Flash Sales, where games would be available for a limited time at deep discounts. So some games are available for only a day where they’re 90% off, while others are available for like two days at 75% off, and a few are available for four days or more at a 30% off.
You do sort of have to act fast so you don’t miss out on any deals that strike your fancy.
As usual, CD Projeckt’s own The Witcher is discounted pretty steep, so if you haven’t bought the game yet now might not be a bad time to do so. You can check out all the deals over on the GOG.com homepage.
