The Banner Saga Trilogy Is Coming To Nintendo Switch In 2018

The final entry in the Banner Saga trilogy will conclude on home consoles and PC this summer. One surprise announcement that came out of the Nindies showcase this week was that The Banner Saga 3 is also coming to the Nintendo Switch.

Stoic Studios and Versus Evil announced previously that The Banner Saga 3 was heading to the Xbox One, PS4 and PC this summer. So now we can add the Nintendo Switch to the list as well.

The game, like its two predecessors, was Kickstarted back at the beginning of 2017. Stoic sought $200,000 for the game but they managed to accrue more than $220,000 within just seven days of the Kickstarter going live, proving that plenty of gamers wanted to see the trilogy made complete with a third outing.

The choice-driven, story-oriented tactical strategy game will feature the same narrative and turn-based combat that was present in the previous two titles, only this time around you’ll be able to play the game on the go.

The announcement for the Switch version comes shortly after Stoic unveiled the story trailer for one of the most interesting and badass characters in The Banner Saga trilogy, Bolverk.

If you’ve played through the first two games your choices will carry over into the third title, prompting for the finale that consists of some gut-wrenching outcomes.

My only question is: how are Switch owners supposed to complete the sage if they’re only getting the third game? It kind of reminds me of when EA ported Mass Effect 3 to the Wii U without the first two games. Are people just expected to dive in without any previous knowledge of the first two games?

Well, thankfully the Nindies Direct did answer that question. Before the duo signed out they announced that the first two games are also making their way to the Nintendo Switch as well, saying that they’re “coming soon”. So that’s a huge sigh of relief for anyone who wanted to check out the third game. Choices from the first two games will also carryover into the third game.

You can look for the Nintendo Switch version to launch alongside the PC, PS4 and Xbox One release of The Banner Saga 3 this summer.
