Ubisoft announced that the official release date for The Crew 2 is set for June 29th, 2018 on PC, PS4 and Xbox One. Ubisoft also confirmed that there will be enhancements for the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X.

Ubisoft’s Ivory Tower division located in Lyon, France, has been working on the game, presumably since 2014 when the original The Crew launched for home consoles and PC. It seems like time has been flying, but that’s all part of the charm of The Crew 2, which actually includes airplanes to the line-up of vehicles that players can race in the game.

Players will race across the United States from coast to coast, using motorcycles, cars, trucks, boats and planes. The racing disciplines include free-style races, challenge events, and career events.

The announcement for the release date was also accompanied by the opening up of the beta test sign-ups, so for those of you who have a modicum of interest in Ubisoft’s upcoming racing game, you can sign-up over on the beta sign-up page.

Sign-ups are available for all three platforms, including the Xbox One, PS4 and PC.

Ubisoft also announced that a pre-order package has been made available, with those who pre-order gaining three days of early access to The Crew 2 starting June 26th, 2018. They’re calling it the Motor Edition.

The special pack comes with The Crew 2 Gold Edition, a season pass, a deluxe pack containing custom outfits and vehicles, along with the Ford F-150 Raptor Race Truck 2017 edition, the Pilatus PC-21 Air Race Edition 2002 plane, and the Abarth 500 Monster Truck Edition from 2008. A steelbook, a roadmap of the tracks, and a custom license plate with four original stickers are also bundled in.

I didn’t particularly think that the original The Crew was all that good. It seemed boring and kind of a laissez-faire game for people who don’t seem to care for professionally-themed racing games with strict disciplines; it was an antithesis to games like Gran Turismo and Project CARS. Though, I guess there were enough casual gamers out there to pad Ubisoft’s pockets to warrant the production of a sequel.

Anyway, with the addition of bikes, planes and boats, maybe more gamers will actually find The Crew 2 entertaining enough to stick around beyond the initial hyped-up release window. You can look for the game to go live at the end of June this year for home consoles and PC.
