Fntastic’s Dead Dozen is prepping to enter into Early Access on Steam starting March 7th. The game is a first-person cooperative shooter themed around John Carpenter’s The Thing.
A dozen players will start off inside of a facility located in the great north. Your objective is to make through the level, survive against the hordes and attempt to get out alive.
Fntastic is hoping to combine the cooperative tension of games like Left 4 Dead with the asymmetric PvP elements found in games like No More Room In Hell and Turtle Rock Studio’s Evolve.
The gist is simple: stay alive.
One player will start as the ghoul and will attempt to summon more NPC ghouls to help them. Killing other survivors will turn them into a ghoul, thus increasing your army size and making your supernatural forces that much more powerful. You can see what the gameplay is like with the trailer below.
The ghouls have special abilities they can unlock along the way, giving players an incentive to keep playing even when they drop dead. It also means that when your teammates falls over you’ll have to quickly look to put them back down when they rise again as a ghoul.
Play-wise it’s about as standard as your average first-person shooter survival game. You’ll have assault rifles, shotguns, pistols and a few gadgets at your disposal when playing as the human survivors. You’ll have a few bestiary powers and the ability to summon zombies when playing as the alpha ghoul.
Dead Dozen’s Early Access run isn’t scheduled to last for very long. According to the FAQ they have plans on getting the full version out by the second quarter of 2018.
All the core gameplay loops will be present in the Early Access version that launches on March 7th, and they have plans on adding more content and more features for the full release.
