Until Dead, Neo-Noir Tactical Zombie Game Now Available For Download

The noir-based tactical action game, Until Dead, is currently available for Android devices. Brazilian developer Monomyto Game Studio took a decidedly different approach to the zombie genre by fusing it with the tactical turn-based sub-genre.

Players take on the role of detective John Mur, who must survive through a zombie plague outbreak, where soldiers are attempting to quarantine and safeguard the situation. Things aren’t as simple as just going in and killing zombies and getting out, though. As Mur, your objective is to investigate crimes – and the crimes happen to be in areas infested with zombies.

This is where the stealth element comes into play. It’s up to gamers to navigate Mur through the areas, taking out the zombies with his trusty spiked knife, and using the environment as cover to get to his destination and complete his task.

You can see how the noir-zombie stealth game plays out with the trailer below.

There’s some obvious clipping issues when it comes to the zombies’ hair, but overall it has a fairly sleek visual aesthetic.

Monomyto likens Until Dead to a board game, where you’ll need to think strategically about where you’re going next and how you’re going to get there. You’ll need to collect the clues throughout the stages and complete the challenges in order to solve the cases.

In addition to the standard mode, there’s also a Creation Mode, where you can build your own maps and come up with the your own mission tasks and then save and share them with the Until Dead community.

I don’t know if this is the kind of game that would really appeal to a mass audience, but it does feature some interesting mechanics that I wish we could see in larger, bigger budget games.

For instance, a stealth zombie game set in a neo-noir environment seems like it could be really cool. And being able to play as a guy who is tough enough to take care himself instead of a soy-consumer is definitely a nice change of pace.

Anyway, if you want to check out Until Dead, you can do so right now by picking up a free copy over on the Google Play Store.
