Team17 and German-based developer Radiation Blue released a new trailer for the action sci-fi game, Genesis: Alpha One. The game is a high-octane, fast-paced, rogue-like survival shooter, combining a lot of the sci-fi elements from the 1972 film Silent Running with the run-and-gun survival play from titles like Killing Floor.
The two minute trailer starts with a quick showcase of the violent, first-person shooting mechanics players will encounter in Genesis: Alpha One, but it also highlights the planetary landing systems as well. The idea is that players will attempt to find a new place for humans to colonize, gather resources and build up their base, but they’ll also have to deal with the dangers that come along with deep space travel. You can check out the trailer below.
It’s actually pretty cool because you can gather resources and then expand and build up your spaceship, adding both functional and leisure compartments to your space flyer.
The design, as mentioned, is very similar to the set-pieces and aesthetics used in Douglas Trumbull’s Silent Running. Lots of lo-fi mechanisms, old-school psychedelic furniture, and hexagonal panels and modules help make up the bulk of the accouterments in Genesis: Alpha One.
But it’s not just about set dressing and interior decorating. The modules actually serve a purpose, and you’ll be required to fill out your crew with clones, using the cloning facility.
Another neat part is that you can collect DNA from various alien species and concoct an abominable mixture of different species to create random crew members made from the hodgepodge of spliced together genes from the far reaches of the galaxy.
Once you get your crew together and step aboard the landing shuttle, you’ll drop down to the planet and begin exploring.
The game looks like a right proper Alien-style title inspired by a lot of classic 1960s and 1970s sci-fi horror flicks. It looks like it could be genuinely fun, assuming the weapon mechanics are proper and the gameplay loops are satisfying.
You can look for Genesis: Alpha One to launch this summer for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
