Media Molecule Shows Off Dreams At GDC 2018 With Comic Sands

Media Molecule’s Dreams is all about creating stuff and using your nebulous mind to reflect thoughts and dreams as a reality in-game. Recently at this year’s GDC, Media Molecule presented Dreams at the event to show off what can be made on the PS4 game.

If you happen to be intrigued by what Media Molecule has on hand right now in regard to Dreams, and you like to build things, this game might be something for you.

Dreams at its core pretty much allows you to make movies, artwork, games, playable hybrid pieces, and whatever tickles your fancy. Of course this is all done on PS4 and using either a controller or keyboard setup.

Four developers at Media Molecule — Alex, Ed, John, and Abbie — worked up a quick demonstration of what can be made in two and a half days using the game’s editor.

The project that may or may not be something noteworthy to some viewers can be seen below, which shows what Dreams can make in a short amount of time.

According to the devs behind Dreams, they describe it as a game, game engine, and an art tool. Stuff like narrative-based titles, pointless games, first-person shooters, top-down role-playing games, point-and-click adventures, and mysteries can be made in Dreams.

The good news behind Dreams is that it’s not just a tool, there will be an actual game to play according to Media Molecule. In other words, if building and creating stuff is not something you fancy, a playable game will be waiting for you when the game itself launches.

In the meantime while we wait for a release date, a somewhat older video that came out on February 20th shows off the act of world building, mood setting, and constructing a scene. You can watch the older video showing how Dreams toolkit operates.
