Tales Of The Neon Sea Is A Cyberpunk Side-Scroller For PC And Consoles

Chinese game publisher, Zodiac Interactive, announced a partnership with developer Palm Pioneer for the new neon-engulfed cyberpunk game called Tales of the Neon Sea is currently scheduled to release this summer for PC and home consoles.

The developers released a new trailer announcing the game, featuring just under two minutes of cinematics and gameplay. I know it seems odd to say “cinematics” for a game that’s pixelated, but it is what it is.

You can check out the trailer below.

The trailer features some loud noises and plenty of ominous sounding effects, but the actual gameplay isn’t quite on par to the presentation of the game.

For instance, Tales of the Neon Sea has a pretty cool look to it, but the first half of the trailer focuses on the main character walking around a lavishly designed cityscape, lovingly crafted in a 2D perspective. We don’t actually get to see much of the interaction until the second half of the trailer, which reveals that the interactions are themed around point-and-click style puzzle solving.

We don’t see much else from the gameplay other than the few sequences, and what appears to be the Grim Reaper hunting down the main protagonist with grim intentions in mind.

The trailer doesn’t really roll out any kind of plot nor does it explain exactly why the main character is being pursued by the Grim Reaper.

There appears to be a variety of locations to visit, and this should make for some interesting interactions, especially since the game is described as having “offbeat” and “quirky” charm.

A demo for Tales of the Neon Sea will be on display at PAX East in Boston, Massachusetts, so be sure to check it out if you have plans on visiting this year’s event.

Additionally, you can look for Tales of the Neon Sea to launch on PC, PS4 and Xbox One this summer.
