The colorful cartoon adventure-platformer, The Adventure Pals, is currently available right now for the Xbox One, the PlayStation 4, PC and the Nintendo Switch. You can pick up a digital copy of the game for $14.99.
The adventure platformer combines side-scrolling challenge-based gameplay with cooperative RPG mechanics. You’ll be able to team up with your best-friend giraffe, Sparkles, and use it to traverse the game maps. What’s more is that a second player can hop into the game and take control of a second player with the drop-in and drop-out co-op.
Much like Super Mario and other side-scrolling titles, you’ll go from hopping on platforms and beating the crap out of scrub enemies to swimming underwater and dodging foes like putterfish.
You can check out the launch trailer for the game below.
The game has more to it than just platforming, zipping across trees and bopping baddies with a derpy looking hero, you’ll also be able to pick up quests sprinkled about in the towns you’ll visit.
The Unity-made game actually looks really good in action. The cartoony graphics are clean as a whistle and the animations are terribly solid.
The antics of having a petarded giraffe in your backpack and a pudgy sword in your hand reminds me a heck of a lot of Adventure Time. There are some obvious similarities between Finn and Jake and the little dude and his giraffe, Sparkles.
Of course, the actual gameplay is like a mix of various genres, giving players the ability perform melee attacks, and battle bosses.
The game reminds me a lot of Scribblenauts but with gameplay that’s reminiscent of a side-scrolling version of Legend of Zelda. There’s also a bit of a Sonic element to it, given that gamers will have to rescue old people who have been turned into food, including the main character’s father, who has been turned into a hot dog.
You can pick up a copy of the game from the Xbox Store, the PlayStation Store, the Nintendo eShop, Steam and GOG.com for $14.99. For more info feel free to visit the official website.
