Japanese developer Saint-Fun International and UFO Interactive Games announced that Fast Beat Loop Racer GT, the popular arcade coin-op racing from Japan, will see the light of day for the first time on gaming platforms in the West via a release on Steam starting April 19th.
The game is a classic arcade racer designed as a new-school version of classics like Ridge Racer and Street Racing Syndicate.
Fast Beat Loop Racer GT has a full-on story mode following the likes of an up-and-coming street racer who wants to prove his worth by racing against some of the best street racers all across Asia.
If the story mode doesn’t interest you, there’s also a Mileage Mode, a Time Attack Mode, and an online multiplayer mode for anywhere between two and four players. You can check out the trailer below, featuring some of the gameplay for the upcoming PC port of the Japanese arcade racer.
I kind of wish they modified the GUI so that so many of gauges and telemetry wasn’t taking up so much of the screen, but I guess it wouldn’t be a Japanese arcade racing port if it didn’t have the obstructive graphical overlay spread across the screen.
Physics-wise this is a game that hearkens back to the old arcade street racers, with light physics and a focus on mastering the mechanics rather than trying to master the weight distribution and engine-specific physics for each of the car types.
Speaking of car types, there are 10 different cars you can choose from, along with the ability to both visually customize the vehicles and upgrade their performance.
The races take place all across Asia, including Osaka, Tokyo, Shanghai, and Beijing to name a few. Each of the locations also have different track layouts and options to mix up and give players a diverse smattering of options spanning 48 tracks.
You can keep track of Fast Beat Loop Racer GT by visiting the Steam store page, where it’ll release on April 19th.
