Brazilian developer, Aquiris Game Studio, announced that Horizon Chase Turbo is set to launch on May 15th, 2018 next month for PC and the PlayStation 4. The game carries a $19.99 price tag with it, and will be available digitally via the PlayStation Store and Steam.
To commemorate the announcement of the release date and pricing details, the studio unleashed a new trailer, highlighting the rapid-pace racing action present in Horizon Chase Turbo, which is themed after the 16-bit racing games of old.
You can check out the trailer below.
The game features a contemporary take on the chiptune soundtracks that games like Lamborghini: American Challenge and Lotus: Turbo Challenge were known for, while also providing the high-octane racing mechanics that were common in games like Chase HQ and Top Gear on the SNES.
As depicted in the release date trailer above, you’ll have single-player racing challenges to overcome as well as multiplayer split-screen races to dive into with up to three other players in local competitive matches.
It’s nice that Aquiris is putting a focus back on split-screen gaming because there’s been a dearth of local multiplayer options in a lot of console games these days, outside of a lot of Nintendo Switch offerings. Most companies these days are focused on Battle Royale style games and other competitive PvP shooter games, as opposed to tapping into the racing genre and giving gamers something slightly different to sink their teeth into.
Horizon Chase Turbo will feature in total 31 different vehicles to drive and more than 100 tracks to complete. Players will travel to China, Japan, California and Hawaii to name just a few of the hotspots that make up the expansive smorgasbord of locations.
You can wishlist the game right now by heading to the Steam store page, or you can keep track of the game for PS4 by visiting the PlayStation Store page.
