Many fans of the B-movie martial artist have been hoping, begging, pleading for Hollywood to give Scott Adkins a chance to shine before there’s nothing left to shine. Well, it doesn’t look like that’s ever going to happen, but Adkins is branching out from the small-time martial arts flicks he’s been saddled with over the years to take on an action, buddy-up comedy role with Australian actor, Louis Mandylor.

The movie is about two lowlife debt collectors – Mandylor obviously being more lowlife than Adkins – who go from petty jobs to slightly less petty but substantially more dangerous jobs.

The movie has a typical action comedy vibe to it that you would expect from most buddy-up films from the 1980s… just that, this flick seems even more low-budget than most flicks from the 1980s. You can check out the trailer below, courtesy of Movie Trailers Source.

If you were hoping for Adkins to whip out his kung-fu traits and spin, twirl, flip and flop across the screen with his acrobatic kicks and lightning fast punches, you’re kind of fresh out of luck here.

Instead you see a more traditional, Americanized fighting style from Adkins, trading in his flashy roundhouse kicks and spinning reverse crescent kicks for all-American hook punches, and fast but panache-free jabs to the gut.

On the up-and-up, The Debt Collector is chock full of destruction fight sequences, shootouts, and big brawls.

It reminds me of a poor man’s 48 Hours with Nick Nolte and Eddy Murphy. At least we know there’s some nudity, some fisticuffs and some gunplay, so it looks like it hits all the standard checkboxes for a movie that the average red-blooded, American man will enjoy.

Rounding out the cast are other B-movie alum, including Michael Paré from Streets of Fire fame, and Tony Todd from the Final Destination flicks and Sushi Girl.

Tarzana Productions is at the helm and the trailer description says that the movie will hit theaters, but it’s likely going to be via limited release. The Debt Collector is due out later this year.
