A minute’s worth of brand new gameplay footage has been posted up for the 3D, retro-themed combat racing game, Racing Apex.
Lucky Mountain Games’ upcoming title is looking better and better every single time some new footage or new gifs or new images are put on display for public consumption. The latest promotional piece of media is a trailer that clocks in at a minute and three seconds, featuring full-on gameplay for the upcoming indie title.
I won’t waste anymore of your time with the typing twaddle, so I’ll just let you get right to it.
The video was published over on Twitter just recently, featuring an Alpine Town track, which is just one of the 16 circuits available in the game.
One of the things that absolutely stands out with Racing Apex is the sound. Oh my goodness, the engine sounds are fantastic, especially in the cockpit where it’s just raw, and loud, and beastly. I love it. It’s a beautiful blessing for the ears.
Physics-wise… the cars appear to have a more stilted, 1990’s style arcade racing system powering the steering and the drifting. It looks a lot like the old San Francisco Rush games once the drifting gets underway. The standard turning and lane switching seems to exhibit the fine precision handling featured in classics like Daytona USA and Virtua Racing.
Most impressive, however, is the car damage. Pieces fly off and fall away during bumps and shunts, giving each vehicle a dynamic visage of twisted metal and missing pieces after each collision. I also really like the collision physics – where the AI veers off to the left after taking a hard nudge from the player’s car near the end of the video. That was a real nice touch, which adds a sense of weight dynamics to the race mechanics.
Racing Apex appears to be coming along wonderfully, and it’s easily one of my most anticipated games of the year. I can’t wait to finally get my hands on it and give some firsthand impressions once it becomes available.
