Star Wars: Episode I Racer Makes A Daring Return To GOG.com

One of the best racing games that came out during the 32/64-bit era was the Star Wars: Episode I Racer game from LucasArts for the N64 and PC. Well, after a long hiatus, the game has currently made a daring return to the DRM-free digital distribution service, GOG.com.

You can pick up a digital copy of the Star Wars: Episode I Racer right now from the GOG.com store page. The game is available for purchase for only $9.99. During the first week of making its dynamic return to the digital storefront, you can grab a copy for 15% off the normal purchasing price for only $8.49.

Hands down, this is easily one of the very best racing games ever made. It’s a fun game to play and a fun game to watch others play, all due to the fact that it’s very, very hard and very and very fast. It requires the kind of technique and reflexes that most game journalists weren’t born with if their parents were latent consumers of soy products. Nevertheless, if you’re one of the real gamers, one of the true gamers of old, you’ll find yourself having a ton of fun customizing your pod-racer and duking it out across a variety of known worlds within the Republic as you race for honor, race for credits, and race for victory.

You can check out the trailer below to get an idea of what the gameplay is like.

The hook for the game was that it was super, super easy to die.

Losing a race only required you to make a few wrong turns and take a few bad bumps and then it was all over.

The trick was mastering the turns, learning how to handle your pod-racer and out-maneuvering your opponents. It’s something that’s definitely easier said than done.

To make things even harder was that opponents were constantly trying to edge you off the track while you were dealing with the trials of the race and trying to come in first place.

They don’t really make ’em like they used to, and this is a punishing, unforgiving racing game that complimented the release of Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace back when it first released.

You can rekindle some of that nostalgia in a DRM-free way right now by picking up a digital copy from over on the GOG.com storefront.
