Street Fighter X Power Rangers Now Live Via Power Rangers: Legacy Wars

Now this is something I absolutely did not see coming. It popped up in the inbox and I originally skipped over it, but then circled back around after I saw the splash art of Capcom’s Street Fighter characters squaring off opposite of Hasbro’s Power Rangers.

Yes, Street Fighter X Power Rangers isn’t its own game (but maybe it should be?) but it is an event taking place in nWay’s Power Rangers: Legacy Wars, which was recently updated to feature some of Capcom’s iconic world warriors.

The update features Ryu, Chun-Li, Guile, Cammy, M. Bison and Akuma. However, Cammy will launch later on June 1st while M. Bison will be available starting June 15th. Characters can be permanently unlocked for use in the game for $4.99. Each character has their own special abilities and moves that made them famous over the 30 year span of Street Fighter’s existence. You can check them out in action with the trailer below.

As showcased in the trailer, you’ll be able to mix and match your team to include characters from the Street Fighter universe and characters from the Power Rangers universe.

According to the press release, Capcom allowed nWay to grab the assets from Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition. Capcom Japan oversaw the transition to ensure that the animations, models, combos, and abilities transferred over smoothly from the home console and PC version of the game, to nWay’s mobile fighting game.

Taehoon Kim, CEO of nWay, commented in the press release about the potential of the crossover, saying…

“Seeing Street Fighter characters duking it out with Power Rangers is truly new and magical. It’s never been done before and now we are making it happen in Power Rangers: Legacy Wars, proving the rising trend of competitive mobile gaming in the West.”

The video trailer actually received a ton of downvotes, but not for the reasons you think.

Power Rangers Legacy Wars - Chun-Li

Many Power Rangers fans only want more Rangers and villains to be added to the game, and not other characters from other franchises.

In a way, I think this whole crossover should have been on home consoles, but there seems to be a lot of reluctance from Capcom and other top AAA brands to make games people are actually willing to buy.

Nevertheless, the update featuring the Street Fighter characters is live right now. You can download Power Rangers: Legacy Wars from over on the iTunes App Store, the Google Play store, or from over on the Amazon Appstore.
