Dontnod Entertainment announced that The Awesome Adventures Of Captain Spirit will be available for free for home consoles and PC starting June 26th. The self-contained story is themed around a kid named Chris who lost his mother and lives with his father. According to the developers, the decisions you make in Captain Spirit will carry over into Life Is Strange 2.
The news comes directly from game and art director, Michel Koch, from Dontnod Entertainment. He spoke with the PlayStation crew at this year’s E3 during the Day 1 interviews and gameplay demos, as published over on the PlayStation YouTube channel.
If you were unable to view the video above, Koch basically states…
“Not only the ending, but some of the choices you will make in Captain Spirit will carry over into Life Is Strange 2. You will have to see how. But there will be moments in Life Is Strange 2 where things you did in Captain Spirit will have consequences”
The game is still set in Oregon, not entirely far off from Arcadia bay, which his where the original Life Is Strange takes place.
Dontnod also decided to upgrade the tech under the hood. Their games have moved over from the Unreal Engine 3 to the Unreal Engine 4, and utilizes physics-based moving parts, as well as some enhanced animation, along with physically based rendering and dynamic directional lighting to help enhance the visual fidelity of The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit.
The game is a standalone episode and it’s around two hours worth of gameplay. According to Koch, it’s designed as a replayable experience where there are more things to unlock as you replay through the game multiple times. Koch also mentions that since the game moves along a linear timeline, players may not see everything the first time they play, so it’s designed – and gamers are encouraged – for you to play it again multiple times to discover new content.
The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit will be available for free via download for PS4, Xbox One, and PC starting June 26th.
