Marvel and DC comic artist, Ethan Van Sciver, has started up his own crowdfunding for Cyberfrog: Bloodhoney. After Diversity & Comics’ Jawbreakers” Lost Souls made $329,000 from IndieGoGo, Van Sciver figured he would give it a shot, and after just a day of crowdfunding, he’s already $93,000 in for getting Cyberfrog: Bloodhoney funded and produced for real comic book fans.
The project actually hearkens back to the early 1990s when Ethan Van Sciver was working on Cyberfrog before he joined DC and Marvel. The comic book was put on hold as he put in some time and effort with the big boys. But now that the big boys aren’t so big anymore – and have decided to trade in their balls for ovaries, which has caused a huge downturn in comic book sales – fans have been wanting, begging for a good comic book series to come out. Thus, Ethan Van Sciver is looking to provide the audience with the kind of artistic nourishment that comic book fans have been craving these last six years.
Ethan Van Sciver has plans on writing and drawing out the first one-shot, which will span 48 pages. You can get a glimpse of the artwork and listen to his plans for the comic with the pitch video below.
I’ll be honest, I originally saw the art and kind of skipped over it at first because I couldn’t wrap my head around a comic book being good based on a cybernetic frog. I know, I’m an idiot… especially given that Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are the baddest reptiles around and I shouldn’t have judged a comic book by its cover.
Anyway, it turns out that I was wrong… Cyberfrog is actually a pretty cool sounding comic book.
Giant mutated hornets from outer space touch down on Earth and begin ripping the flesh off of humans and using it to construct giant hives in order to replicate. They use the plasma from humans for honey to feed their ever-growing army. Earth quickly becomes a dystopian battleground, ruled by the giant hornets, and only Cyberfrog can save the planet.
After coming out of a 20 year hibernation, Cyberfrog and his brother take the fight to the gruesome and bloodthirsty hornets.
It’s pretty obvious that people tired of SJW comic books are literally putting their money into the projects they would like to buy, instead of just complaining about SJWs on Twitter and social media. I imagine a lot of people are also wanting to support Ethan after various SJWs tried getting him fired from DC Comics.
I don’t really need to tell you to go support Cyberfrog since it’s already well past its initial $8,000 goal, but you can do so by visiting the IndieGoGo page. The project still has a month to go before the crowdfunding ends.
