Capcom discussed details about Resident Evil 2 and also showcased a live gameplay demonstration for the game. They revealed that it’s running on the Resident Evil 7 game engine, and the gore system was lifted from last year’s horror title. We see this demonstrated when Leon Kennedy, the rookie RCPD cop investigating the zombie-filled police station, moves around a mutilated cop’s head.
We also learn that as a remake, Resident Evil 2 Remake features a lighting structure and setup that resembles the natural evolution of how the original game would look in today’s tech. This also translates into the gameplay, where it was revealed that this is not a fast-paced shooter like Resident Evil 6, and you will have to conserve ammo and travel through the game in a more deliberate and plodding way.
As you can see in the video below, there aren’t a lot of zombies jumping out and flooding the screen. According to Capcom the zombies are a lot harder to kill and they won’t go down with just a few hits.
Obviously, the fixed camera has been changed from the original and now it has an over-the-shoulder view. This was made deliberately to reflect the gameplay experience from Resident Evil 4.
You’ll still have the basic gameplay controls as Resident Evil 4 as well, where you can pull out your firearm and shoot enemies on the fly, but also switch to your melee weapon and attack quickly as well.
And Claire Redfield will also be playable alongside Leon Kennedy. They’ve also switched up some of the enemy placements so that everything isn’t as predictable as the original PC, PSX and N64 versions of the game.
You’ll be able to purchase Resident Evil 2 Remake for PC, PS4 and Xbox One starting January 25th, 2019.
