Microsoft’s July offerings for July, 2018’s Xbox Live Games With Gold are downright detestable… according to gamers.
Microsoft revealed the four free games that come packed in with the Xbox Live Gold subscription, and they include:
- Assault Android Cactus available July 1st – Xbox One
- Death Squared available July 16th – Xbox One
- Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown available July 1st – Xbox 360
- Splinter Cell: Conviction available July 16th – Xbox 360
While the Xbox 360 games aren’t bad, they’re old as Methuselah, and about as cheap as Courtney Love’s makeup. But oh boy… those Xbox One games are not the sort of games to lure people into paying a monthly subscription for your multiplayer service.
The video reveal for the Games With Gold did not go down well with the Xbox audience.
As you can see, there’s a lot of disappointment running rampant with that like/dislike ratio. The comments aren’t much more propitious.
Even people who admit to not complaining much were there to complain.
The replies on the Twitter feed where Microsoft made the announcement for the July roll out for Games With Gold weren’t much different. There seemed to be a universal feeling of disgust spread across the great Xbox camp.

As much as I would love to fill up the article with some of the sterling comments provided with a side-order of free laughs, courtesy of the Xbox gaming community, the more pressing matter is that as many commenters pointed out: Games With Gold seems to be declining in quality as Microsoft focuses on pimping the Xbox Game Pass.
The AAA publishers are constantly trying to veer gamers into live services, where they constantly pay subscription fees to access their games. It’s becoming rather Orwellian for as far as game ownership is concerned because once those services go kaput, so does your library, and so does access to the games.
That’s not to mention that when companies like Blizzard or Sony hold your accounts hostage by forcing you to behave a certain way in order to keep playing your games, it adds an extra layer of enmity that gamers hold toward the companies and the all-digital future they keep trying to peddle.
Anyway, you can look for the rather unsatisfactory line-up of games for the Xbox One and Xbox 360 to launch as part of the Games With Gold offerings starting July 1st.
