Focus Home Interactive and Vostok Games announced that the post-apocalyptic, Soviet-themed Battle Royale survival game, Fear The Wolves, has been pushed back by several weeks. The Early Access was originally supposed to get underway on July 18th, but now the developers have announced that it will arrive in late summer or possibly early fall.
Focus Home Interactive and Vostok Games felt that after gaining feedback from the community and listening to “expectations” gathered from those who participated in a closed beta test, they decided that they should delay the release slightly in order to address some of the issues with the game before opening it up to the Early Access crowd.
In addition to delaying the Early Access release, the developers have also extended the closed beta testing in order to gather more feedback from players and make adjustments here and there.
Part of the hook for Fear The Wolves is that it’s not just a standard Battle Royale game, but it includes some of the elements that made Vostok Games’ past titles unique, such as the dynamic weather system that can change whether it’s wet or dry or if a fog has fallen. There’s also the inclusion of radiation hazards, anomalies, and an all new end-of-game extraction system based around attempting to get to a helicopter and get out of the zone before the radiation kills you.
There are some interesting design choices being implemented to help separate Fear The Wolves from the dozen or so other Battle Royale games on the market.
The Ukrainian developers have plans on entering into and finishing up the Early Access run by the end of 2018, so that the game can launch on the PS4 and Xbox One in early 2019.
We’ll see how well they can keep to that schedule when Fear The Wolves finally enters into Early Access later this summer.
