Back when Valve had Greenlight as an extension to Steam to help out smaller products and other games get on to the storefront, some interesting titles would pop up on the platform like The Box Studio and Frog Factory’s Heathen. The FPS indie game powered by the CryEngine that explores themes of H.G. Well’s The Island of Dr. Moreau is set to launch this autumn for PC via Steam Early Access.
Heathen hit Steam Greenlight way back on June 22nd, 2016, and is still in development as of 2018. However, the devs plan to release the game inspired by H.G. Well’s novel this autumn.
Speaking of Well’s work, the game sees English expedition Peary and Scott discovering an island populated by strange and ferocious creatures. Half-human, half-animal, they were created by Dr. Moreau, wherein Peary, a scientist and biologist, attempts to resume his work.
After 20 years, Peary and Scott create a plethora of “beasts” and build an empire. Later, the two cannot control the island populated by various generations of beasts, who are often hostile towards each other, which is where your story begins as one of the creatures. Your goal is to explore, develop, understand and reclaim the island while maintaining the law of Moreau.
