Remnant: From The Ashes Combines Monster Hunting And Survival Simulation

Perfect World and Gunfire Games’ Remnant: From The Ashes is a new cooperative shooter game from the makers of Darksiders 3. The game is a mixture of Secret World fused with DayZ, as players will have to battle against a supernatural force that produces all manner of deadly monsters known as The Root. But not only that, there will also be a survival element to the game where players will have to endure one another, scavenging for supplies and equipment during some tough times.

Perfect World and Gunfire released a new trailer for Remnant: From The Ashes, featuring a minute and a half worth of gameplay and cinematics.

The trailer doesn’t have a whole lot of traction because they decided to release the trailer in a media dead zone where no one was able to properly spot it and it didn’t drop during this year’s E3 or Comic-Con so it just kind of floated across the empty expanse of YouTube, only gathering a flicker of support from diehard Xbox fans.

Embarrassingly enough, the trailer has fewer views than the trailer for the Japanese indie game Dead or School we uploaded a short while back.

Anyway, the actual game looks like it takes some of the basic design of a third-person shooter and combines it with the typical survival simulation setup. So you’re going around working with other players, collecting gear and fighting larger-than-life monsters, while also dealing with the minutiae of survival and PvP.

If it has emergent gameplay I can easily imagine Remnant gaining a small cult-like following. A lot of it will depend on how well the monsters are implemented and whether or not the game affords for more free-form exploration and adventuring or if it’s going to be limited and linear in how progression and gameplay unfolds.

We’ll likely learn more about Remnant: From The Ashes closer towards its release. Hopefully for the next trailer they’ll focus on putting it out during a more opportune time to get it as many views as possible. The game is set to come out for Xbox One, PS4 and PC at some point in 2019. For more info feel free to visit the official website.
