9 Monkeys Of Shaolin GamesCom Trailer Highlights Beat-’em-Up Co-op Action

A minute long trailer was released for 9 Monkeys of Shaolin, focusing on the two-player cooperative gameplay. This includes the ability to partner up with another player in local action on PC, PS4, Xbox One or Nintendo Switch, or join up with a buddy via online co-op.

Russian developer Sobaka Studio decided to follow-up their isometric action shooter, Redeemer, with a classic side-scrolling beat-’em-up. Instead of playing as a retired hitman who must protect a shaolin temple from a kill squad sent to take him out, you’ll be taking on the role of a shaolin martial artist named Wei Cheng. Armed with your staff and some classic kung-fu moves, your task is pretty simple: clear out the raiding bandits sent to destroy and pillage your home.

You can see what the gameplay is like within 9 Monkeys of Shaolin, as the latest trailer highlights not only the cooperative play but the counters, blocking system, combos, and environmental interactions as well.

You’ll have different variations of weapons at your disposal, along with the ability to increase your skills as you take on more foes and move up from small-time bandits to big-time warlords.

The game is very similar to a few other 3D beat-’em-up titles that have released over the years, including games like Invincible Tiger, Double Dragon: Neon and Sword of the Guardian.

In addition to unleashing various combos, you can also deflect attacks by blocking, or reflect certain attacks to deal damage to foes using their own projectiles.

As showcased in the trailer, if the going gets tough simply bring in a little bit of help from the outside by having a buddy team up with you to take down the enemies.

9 Monkeys of Shaolin doesn’t look like the kind of game that breaks ground anywhere, but it does look like a solid eight-direction beat-’em-up title.

You can look for the 9 Monkeys of Shaolin to be on display at GamesCom at the Buka Entertainment boothe in Hall 10.1 booth A20. Alternatively you can look for the game to launch this winter for PC, PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.
