Assetto Corsa Competizione Enters Early Access On Steam September 12th

Italian development studio Kunos Simulazioni announced that the Early Access version of Assetto Corsa Competizione is set to get underway starting September 12th, next month. Gamers will be able to pick up a digital copy of the Early Access version of the game from the Steam store.

Some of the game’s details were rolled out during the SRO press conference during the 70th edition of the Total 24 Hours of Spa in Stavelot, Belgium. Kunos Simulazioni’s product manager and co-founder, Marco Massarutto, detailed some of the game’s features and the commitment from the development studio to maximize the Unreal Engine 4 to bring the characters, cars, physics, and spirit of racing to life in the upcoming release of Assetto Corsa Competizione.

For the first time in the series the developers are utilizing motion capturing for the pit crews and drivers so that they have realistic movements during pit stops, driver changes, and other sequential scenes.

There will be photorealistic weather conditions, along with official drivers, teams, cars and circuits.

They released a new video to highlight the switch over to the Unreal Engine 4 and the graphics improvements and gameplay changes that came with the switch. Check it out below.

Physics-wise the game looks really good. I wouldn’t say “realistic”, but I would say that it comes very close. The cars appear to showcase proper weight distribution and shift in mass during the turns.

It still seems a ways off from classics like Gran Turismo 4, and visually it’s not quite the sort of game that completely dominates Project CARS or Forza Motorsport 7, but you can tell that Kunos Simulazioni is still attempting to elevate their game and produce a competitive racer that gives the status quo a run for their money.

You can look for the game to enter into Early Access on the Steam store starting September 12th or you can learn more by visiting the official Assetto Corsa Competizioni website.
