Insomnia: The Ark, Dieselpunk Action-RPG Enters Into Beta Testing

A new trailer for HeroCraft and Studio Mono’s crowdfunded game, Insomnia: The Ark, was recently released, featuring an overview of the gameplay and features in association with the game’s next major beta test phase.

Beta sign-ups are available over on the official Insomnia website, while the trailer itself details how the game offers more than 80 different weapons to collect and utilize in the over-the-shoulder action-RPG, more than 250 NPCs to interact with each with unique dialogue and more than 200,000 lines of text, and how there are 12 different endings depending on the choices you make throughout the game.

You can check out the trailer below.

The game is described as a dieselpunk action-RPG. The story is rather simple, you wake up on a space station called Object 6 as part of a 400 year journey for humans to find a new home. However, the survival of the species is in your hands and you’ll have to fight, barter, and violently fadangle your way towards becoming a savior of humanity. You’ll be able to make decisions that will change the game’s world and character interactions and eventually unlock one of the 12 different endings in Insomnia.

Hopefully the choices are a lot more subtle than the red, green, blue style endings that some games decided to waffle out and slap on the slab of consumerism like some kind of raw meat, untended meat.

The game reminds me a lot of Spiders’ Mars War Logs or the The Technomancer. However, the game tries to build out its own identity by giving gamers an all new world to explore and an all new IP that could hopefully turn into its own brand if it turns out to be fun and engaging.

There’s a lot of content being packed into Insomnia. I remember this game from a while back, so it’s nice to see that it’s finally coming along and nearing completion. You can learn more about the game by visiting the Steam store page.
