New World Interactive announced that the first-person shooter Insurgency is free for the next two days on the Steam store for Windows, Linux, and Mac users. You’ll be able to download and play the game once it’s added to your library, and it will stay there for as long as you keep your library or for as long as Steam’s servers are up.
This is part of a pre-release promotion for Insurgency: Sandstorm, which is due to drop on September 18th. The free giveaway of Insurgency will run between 10:00am PDT August 13th to 10:00am PDT August 15th.
If you already own Insurgency then you will be in for a bonus discount of 10% off on Insurgency: Sandstorm. Additionally they’re running a 10% off pre-order discount ahead of the game’s release, so you’ll be able to double up the bonus discounts by 20% off, bringing the launch price down from $29.99 to $23.99.
And yes, the 10% off discount also applies to those who download the game for free during the 48 hour promotion.
The original Insurgency came out way back in 2014, during that tumultuous time leading up to the events of #GamerGate.
The game features 40 different weapons, along with additional weapon attachments, and no crosshairs. Weapon handling is supposed to be based on real life, with weight, gear, and stamina all affecting your combat abilities.
There are 16 different maps and seven different game modes, five of which are cooperative. Up to 32 players can hop into the competitive PvP modes, and there is support for dedicated servers, custom server setups, and support for offline play with bots.
If you want to download Insurgency for free and add it to your library (and have it stay there), you have the next two days to do so before the promotion ends. Simply visit the Steam store page and click on the big green button that says “Install Game”.
